St Agnes Library and Parish Council Offices
Community
For many in the parish of St Agnes the local library has become a hub. As a focal point for the village and wider parish the library has quickly outgrown the needs of the community. The need for a larger library space drove the design during the initial phase of the project.
Economy
As the project developed it became apparent that the local parish council could combine their offices with the library. This would reduce the requirement for two separate buildings resulting in a more economically viable long term solution to house both parties.
Environment
From the project outset environmental considerations have driven the design philosophy. The materials chosen reflect the sustainable approach, with timber playing a prominent role in the structure and architectural façade of the of the building.
Desmonde Associates led a public consultation at the Miners & Mechanics Institute on 15/09/2023 where members of the local community were invited to view the proposed plans for the new library and council offices. Public engagement so early in the project enabled parishioners the opportunity to engage with designers and members of the council to raise concerns, ideas and approvals.
“I think this is a great way forward. The old library is too small & past its working life. Fully support this new library plan.”
“It will be good for children. More space!”
“Wonderful development for the village. We are lucky to have the Cornwall Library Service, it is a great asset to young and old alike. Long may it continue to thrive.”
“Great plan using the space available with economics of scale. Will be huge benefit to the community.”
